Internship & Professional Identity in Dance/Movement Therapy

This year long group provides a rich experience of supervision/consultation and support for students in alternate route training who are embarking on the 700 internship hours required to earn the R-DMT credential.

The course offers structure and support to students developing the skills and knowledge needed to apply and practice dance/movement therapy training in a clinical setting. Students learn to practice, engage applied theory, and develop their professional identity as a dance/movement therapist. Topics are participant driven and include case/clinical consultation, practice building, networking, presentation and professional development strategies.

The course accompanies students during the first year of their internship work and includes 30 hours of group clinical supervision. Each three-hour session includes one hour of content relevant to clinical internship experience and two hours of dynamic group supervision. Sessions are spread throughout the year and offered online and/or in person, depending on student location and access.

Note: There are an additional 40 hours of dance/movement therapy individual supervision required for credentialing. This is an additional cost, and not included in the program. The course offers support in identifying BC-DMT supervision resources appropriate for each student according to evolving clinical interests in dance/movement therapy and geographical location.
